KyTek releases Autopage® 6
for QuarkXPress 6 and OS X
Autopage is the most powerful family of QuarkXTensions for the automated page layout of books, textbooks, encyclopedias, directories and yellow pages.
For Immediate Release: February 10, 2004
Weare, NH: KyTek announces the release of Autopage 6. Autopage is one of a family of XTensions to QuarkXPress that automate the layout of trade books, textbooks, journals, encyclopedias, directories and yellow pages. Autopage automatically places art, tables, footnotes, margin notes and margin art, producing visually balanced page spreads while eliminating orphans and widows.
QuarkXPress 6 and OS X Native
Autopage 6 runs natively with QuarkXPress 6 under OS X allowing all the advantages of automated page layout for QuarkXPress 6 with the advantages of running in the native OS X environment.
Mirrored Icon/Table Placement
Book designs often call for an icon or graphic to be different depending on whether the element is placed on a left or a right page. Autopage now supports the automatic substitution of such left/right page dependent elements during the pagination process. The sample spread below shows the side art elements with graphic arrows pointing in opposite directions on left and right pages of the spread.
This same mirrored left/right page placement can be used with tables whose content is the same but whose related graphic elements varies depending on whether the element is placed on a left or a right page.

Dynamic Pagination of Paragraphs
The Autopage pagination engine is enhanced to assure that paragraphs whose depths are adjusted during pagination via tracking and word space kerning to achieve better page breaks aren't left with a too short last line caused by including hidden text at the end of the paragraph in the last line character count. This is particularly important when Autopage is used with companion XTensions such as XMLxt to embed XML structure tags around paragraphs.
The dynamic paragraph adjustment algorithm is enhanced to look ahead at a column break and recognize that running a paragraph long thus allowing it to split into the next column may result in better overall page breaks and fewer pagination faults.
MS-Word/RTF Content Export for Authors
The batch content export of Autopage is enhanced to allow exporting the entire flattened document to MS-Word's RTF format in addition to exporting in the XPress tags format. This provides an easy way to return content to authors for subsequent revision in a format they're familiar with.
Inline Art Placement After Paragraph
Autopage has always been able to place inline art after a line containing a reference to that art. Now, Autopage can place the art after the paragraph containing the reference rather than immediately after the line containing the reference.
Footnote Section Numbering
NoteSection.jpg
Footnote numbering in Autopage 6 is enhanced to handle section number placement and associated horizontal rules between footnotes in different sections as desired. The example below shows a change on the right page of the spread to section 2. The initial note in the section is preceded by the section number and the note numbering is re-initialized to 1. The example also shows a new feature allowing the rule above the footnotes to be offset horizontally (in this case to the left).

Continuation Line Enhancements

In-column continuation line placement is enhanced to allow specification of a character that limits the extraction. In the example here the content of a paragraph up to a space character is extracted from the relevent body text style when the category spans columns.

Fixed Length Job Improvements
FixedLengthParams.GIF
With the fixed length job option, Autopage can use a combination of page depth, leading and measure to vary the length of tradebooks such that they run to a fixed number of pages or within a fixed range of page counts. When the measure is varied it is often necessary to vary the location of the folio and running head as well to balance with the body text. In the example below the measure has been reduced from it's optimum and the corresponding change has been made to the running head and folio.

Autopage 5.8 for OS9
All the features of Autopage 6 for QuarkXPress 6 / OS X are also available in the just released Autopage 5.8 for earlier versions of QuarkXPress running under OS 9.
Both Autopage 5.8 and 6.0 contain additional enhancements to the pagination and multi-purposing process.
Autopage is One of a Kind
Autopage is the only automated page layout XTension for QuarkXPress for producing books, textbooks, directories and yellow pages. It does not require a special viewer XTension to view, edit or print the QuarkXPress documents it creates. It creates easy to edit documents with text boxes linked naturally and spacing adjustments made in the paragraph formats dialog where they are easily accessed and modified whether or not Autopage is loaded. It is compatible with all popular XTensions used in book production for importing tagged text, placing running heads and creating tables and math equations.
KyTek is the leading developer of XTensions that automate the layout of book, directory and yellow pages with QuarkXPress.
