Weare, NH: KyTek announces the release of Autopage® PE 5.1, the $945 XTension to QuarkXPress that automates the layout of trade books, textbooks, journals and encyclopedias. KyTek also announces the release of Autopage® Pro 5.1 that additionally automates the layout of more complex books, directories and yellow pages. Both XTensions automatically place art, tables, footnotes, margin notes and margin art, producing visually balanced page spreads while eliminating orphans and widows. Both provide for automatic generation of HTML pages for the Web.

New in the Autopage® 5.1 family are: more options for the automatic generation of HTML for the world wide web; easy point and click tools for tagging footnotes, art, tables, margin notes and side art; sophisticated controls for handling framed, tinted text elements; expanded footnote placement functions; more art placement controls; enhanced ad placement in yellow pages and improved performance. The enhanced HTML interface means more automated generation of HTML pages from QuarkXPress documents while the simpler user interface means less time setting up and running jobs and the new functions and improved performance mean less time running jobs.

Autopage® creates structured QuarkXPress documents that are more easily converted to HTML pages than a typical unstructured document. New in Autopage® 5.1 are features that let the user decide whether art and table elements should be converted to GIF's as they appear in the printed book or broken into their constituent parts for easier manipulation by web tools.

A new point and click interface for tagging footnotes, margin notes, art, tables, side art and display ads greatly reduces the time required to interactively tag elements. The point and click interface makes tagging as easy as linking text boxes. This new interface supplements the existing code driven automated tagging function.

The rules for page placement of framed, tinted text now allow frames of a given color, shade and style to be automatically applied based on coding. The framed/tinted text can be non-breaking or if allowed to break required to leave a certain depth of material before and after the break. This combination of features greatly simplifies the page makeup of text books with tinted boxed elements and directories with framed elements.

Autopage® 5.1 now handles multi-column footnotes in a single column layout, global footnotes and allows for variations in the shading applied to footnote rules. Multi-column footnotes let you have single column text while the footnotes are placed and balanced below in two or more columns. If multiple references to the same footnote (global footnotes) occur in a column the footnote is placed only once at the bottom of the page and all references to it are given the same number. The new control of footnote rule shading supplements the existing ability to specify that a rule be placed as well as the color, length and alignment of the rule.

Autopage® is the only automated page layout XTension to QuarkXPress for producing books, textbooks, directories and yellow pages that does not require a special viewer XTension to view, edit or print the QuarkXPress documents it creates. It is the only XTension that creates easy to edit documents with text boxes linked naturally and spacing adjustments made in the paragraph formats dialog where they are easily accessed and modified whether or not Autopage® is loaded. It is the only XTension that is compatible with all popular XTensions used in book production for importing tagged text and creating tables and math equations.
